How To: Making and Modifying FP+

FastPass

Scrolling through the Walt Disney World website can easily build up loads of excited anticipation. Imagining blasting off into the Star Wars universe aboard Star Tours, or taking the plunge with Brer Rabbit down Splash Mountain… what could be better than that? Regrettably, what often sends those dreams spiraling away is the reality of walking up to line and seeing 55, 90, sometimes even 120+ minute waits.

Luckily, Disney, unlike most theme parks, provides a free service for line expediting to all who visit. With your ticket, you receive the opportunity to book FastPasses in order to experience a shorter wait time at three attractions of your choice on each given day. There is quite a bit of flexibility; you can choose the attraction, time of day, and the number of party members who wish to go together. And after you experience all three, you can continue making FastPasses for one attraction at a time throughout the evening.

Many first-time users have a hard time wrapping their heads around the FastPass+ system, however, and I’m not surprised. It’s a pretty technologically involved process, especially for new site visitors. I will take you through the basic steps of planning FastPass (FP+ henceforth) before your visit and explain how to modify when you are in the park.

MAKING A FASTPASS+

*Please note: In order to make Fastpass+ selections, you must first create an account. After creating your primary account holder, you should create “Family & Friends” profiles for each person joining the vacation. Personalizing them with character avatars is not only cute, but it truly helps your brain keep track of who you’re selecting throughout the process. Once your profiles are complete, click “My Reservations and Tickets” to link your purchased tickets to each person. FastPass selections cannot be made unless an unused ticket is linked to each person in your selected party.*

1.) DROP THE MY DISNEY EXPERIENCE MENU AND SELECT “FASTPASS+”

1

2.) SELECT “ADD FASTPASS+” IN TOP RIGHT CORNER

2

Any previous selections will be displayed on this screen. You can revisit at any time to modify (which will be explained below).

3.) CHOOSE THE MEMBERS OF YOUR PARTY FOR THE INDIVIDUAL FASTPASS

3

4.) USE THE CALENDAR TO SELECT THE DATE AND PARK

4

*Note:* that the hours for the park will be listed here as well. If you’re staying at a Disney resort, I recommend paying close attention “Extra Magic Hours” to help decide what parks you should do on which day. These hours before or after regular park hours can be accessed only by resort guests, and you can generally experience shorter wait times. Please note, however, no FastPasses can be made during these special periods.

5.) SELECT AN ATTRACTION AND FASTPASS+ START TIME

4.5

If the short list by your chosen attraction includes a good time for you, perfect! Just click on the time you desire. If you wish to explore more time options, simply click “View Details and More Times” below the attraction’s name.

(Generally, good practice is to always look at the complete list of offerings to find the time frame that works best in your itinerary! Check out 7 Tips for Building a Flawless Itinerary for thoughtful considerations to make in your planning process.)

6.) [OPTIONAL] CHOOSE YOUR PREFERRED TIME FROM THE COMPLETE LIST

5

7.) REVIEW TO ENSURE ALL INFORMATION IS CORRECT, PRESS “CONFIRM”

6

8.) REVIEW CONFIRMATION

Choose the next two FP+ for this day by clicking “Continue on same day” below. Begin the next set of FP+ for another day by clicking “Select a different day.” Or review your current selections by clicking “View My Plans” under the date.

7

*PLEASE NOTE: You are only allowed to choose 3 FastPasses on any given day, and they must all be from one park. However, if you are park hopping, after you have used the first three you are allowed to make one more at a time regardless of park. Therefore, if you anticipate park hopping, consider making FP early in the day so not to be tied up in one park.*

MODIFYING A FASTPASS+ SELECTION

Say you have already made your selections, but someone changes their mind about which ride they want most. Or perhaps, day of, you are falling a bit behind schedule and you want to try to make a later show. You can always come back to your FastPass+ selections and modify them (depending on what is available), be it to adjust the time or the attraction altogether. Nothing is ever locked in until you use it, or you lose it by missing your reservation.

1.) ON THE FASTPASS+ PAGE, CLICK “VIEW DETAILS” BELOW THE ATTRACTION TITLE YOU WISH TO MODIFY

(Find Fastpass+ page on the My Disney Experience drop menu in the top right corner)

A

2.) SELECT “MODIFY”

B

3.) SELECT ALL PARTY MEMBERS WHOSE FP+ WILL BE CHANGED

C

4.) CHOOSE YOUR MODIFICATIONS

D

Be sure to review your FP+ selections when done making changes to ensure everything has processed correctly!

Forgot to charge your phone? No worries. Check any map for circles with “FP+”. These indicate in-park kiosks where you can make and modify your FastPasses. To use these devices, you will need everyone’s ticket and/or MagicBands, depending on what you’re using, to pick your selections. Keep in mind, waiting until day of to pick FastPasses means you are likely to have fewer options. Furthermore, the kiosks do not generally provide as much transparency about availability.

The website and mobile app are both very user friendly, however. Once you make your first day of Fastpass+ selection you’ll find yourself flying through the process. If you’re having any trouble, never hesitate to contact Disney Vacation Planning. Their number will always be available at the bottom of the Walt Disney World website. And if you have any further questions about suggestions for selections, shoot me a message on my
Contact page. I am always happy to help!

Thanks for tuning in. Keep those ears up!
